The State of State
State management in React has always been a hot topic. With the rise of Server Components, the way we handle client-side state has fundamentally changed.
Modern Approaches
- Server State vs. Client State: Tools like React Query handle asynchronous server state cache, leaving local UI state simple.
- Zustand & Jotai: Minimalist, unopinionated libraries have largely replaced Redux for most mid-sized applications due to their simplicity and less boilerplate.
- Context API for Dependency Injection: Context is best used for passing down themes, user sessions, or configuration, rather than high-frequency state updates.
Keep it simple. Start local, move up the tree when needed, and only use global stores when absolutely necessary.
